how odd is this?

So, I'm tooling around the web, looking for pics of Maiden Street because I'm thinking of send vamp!Willow and Spike there, when I find this bit of info:

The standard price list on Morton Street (what Maiden Lane was called when that area was the red light district) was as follows:
Mexican women, 25¢
Black, Chinese, or Japanese women, 50¢
Frenchwomen 75¢
American women $1.00
Red-haired women (especially if Jewish): negotiable
San Franciscans believed that redheads, especially Jewish redheads, were sizzling hot.

That bit about the redheads, especially Jewish redheads, really threw me since I'm sending Willow there, although I have to admit I'm not sending her back in time to when prostitues worked that area.

I know. Strange!

I did find a good pic, I think on that site. I might look for more at the library tomorrow (my home connection is sloooooow). However, this is set in the late 1980s I think (whenever BtVS was airing), and I'm not sure how much the area has changed since then. One of the sites I clicked to suggested homeless used to hang out in Union Square around that timeframe.

I've been visiting SF since the early 90's. There were some homeless in the area at the time (SF always has a lot of homeless people) but it was still mostly pretty touristy/upscale.

That helps very much. Thank you.
