more on my new cat

So the first day I brought him home (Monday) I decided to put him in the basement bathroom (which is where the kitty litter lived for my last cat) because we had a vet appointment a couple of hours later and I wanted to be able to find him and get him into the carrier. Of course he made a run for it. There was a kitty barrier behind him so he headed for the stairs. He took one look at the barrier (one of those child gate things) I'd put on the stairs and tried to climb over it, thereby pulling the gate down onto himself. At the bottom of the stairs he took off again and ran for the back door. I chased him a bit but he let me catch him pretty quickly. I think that's when he figured out "Hey, I'm in a home. This could be okay."

I'm keeping him in the bathroom until I'm sure the fleas are dead, but I've been sitting with him for a good hour and a half at a time because I want him to know he's okay here. I think I don't need to worry. Yesterday I was giving him chin scritchies. When I pulled my hand up, he reached out his paw to pull my hand back down so I would pet him some more. I think he's feeling pretty comfortable.  ;-)

Well I would never argue with that! ;-)

I too, found out I had a special needs pet after adopting her from the shelter. My late Labrador, Gracie Allen, turned out to be epileptic. But she was a bundle of delirious joy and helping her cope with her seizures and nursing her through her ultimately necessary adjustment to meds were absolutely worth it. Gracie was one of a kind.

Gracie Allen as in Burns and Allen? Nice. She sounds like a lovely dog.

Yes indeed, she was named for George Burns's beloved wife and gifted comic partner. The name really suited my ditzy Lab, that's for sure. Hee!
