Amazon is about to rob people blind as it steals their fanfiction.

Which may sound weird coming from someone who gives his fanfiction away, but because something has no monetary value doesn't stop it from being thieved by money-grubbing crooks.

Or am I giving my opinion away too soon?

Ray.

I'd never pay for fanfiction. Ever.

I also think that most fanfiction isn't good enough to be sold for actual real money. My own included.

And Amazon seems to be the ones getting the most out of the deal anyway.

If anyone wants to sell what they write just change it and sell it as original works of art.

My initial thought about this -- don't like it. For me, fanfic is about being compelled by a particular universe and loving its characters and sharing that love with like-minded people. It's about community, in a way, and I think that publishing of this sort changes the motivation for writing, the nature of the writing itself, and the audience for whom it is being written. And that makes me kind of sad.

Yeah, really not into it.
