I'm watching Cleopatra, the version with Elizabeth Taylor. I like this version. Unilke another version I've seen, here Cleopatra is acknowledged as one of the great scholars of her time. This version also reflects that she came from a subtle and dangerous court. Nicely done!
It's definitely a film with an undeservedly bad reputation - largely owing to the budget and the off-camera drama occurring during filming - and one that could stand with a sober critical reappraisal. I prefer it to the Colbert version, though I have a soft spot for Warren William as Caesar just because... well... Warren William.
That Colbert version, based on Wikipedia, does look fascinating. Happily the library has a couple of copies so once my hold comes in I'll be able to check it out. ;-)
