Why is Giles having his texts scanned?

In the eight episode -  i, robot ... you, jane - why is Giles having his texts scanned? Jenny makes some comment about an index and a database but Giles hasn't gone near it. Given how much of a Luddite Giles is, the database is obviously not for him. He has no interest in using it at all.

Jenny as a vengeance demon would be interesting - but what would she be? We'd have to come up with a niche.

And you're trying to sneak the prompts in now, aren't you? I wish my Dawn voice wasn't so awful - I really have to work on her. I think it goes back to the shippy thing - it's more likely to get readers if it has a m/f dynamic a lot of the time, whether it's shippy or not. Then again, it could just be because Spike gets a lot more fandom love in general.

I was thinking that too, that Spike just gets a lot more of the fandom love than Buffy or Tara.

Which is such a shame. I mean, I love Spike - I seriously do - but come on! Buffy and Tara are such good characters - they're my girls.

I've never written a lot of either one of them. I must be following the herd on this one. Tell you what, if I ever write the I Dream of Jeannie crossover (http://beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com/208649.html?thread=3864841#t3864841) that Beer Good seems to be talking me into (without even trying!), then I'll put either Buffy and/or Tara in.

And - Jenny/Dawn suddenly popped into my brain. I think I seriously weirded myself out this tiime.

But there's not a lot of gen Buffy & xander fic out there; and there's some Buffy & Giles fic, but Buffy/Giles has a huge following. (Which squicks me out - I can plausibly ship Giles with almost anybody, and have seen it done well, but BUFFY? His symbolic daughter? Oh no. No no no.) And there is tons of Buffy/Faith and a huge readership for that apparently; shippy fics of almost any pairing are easier to find that gen friendship fics.

Spike & Dawn is the one exception that comes immediately to mind - but that's because of Spike. There are thousands of friendship fics with those two even though Tara was friends with her first, and inserted memories or not, Dawn lived with and would have spent more time with Joyce and Buffy up until the Gift, and then didn't interact with Spike onscreen more than a few times in S6. Buffy and Dawn were separated for "147 days" but it's those days that matter.

Then again, it could just be because Spike gets a lot more fandom love in general.

I've been reading over at Hairy Eyeball and it's all Giles/Willow which I just don't get. And interstingly - I guess because I'm almost 50 - I don't get it from his PoV. Why would he be interested in someone so much younger? *shakes head*
