vamp!Giles would be harder to defeat than Angelus. I remember one Lit Gal story where she had the idea that vampires were sort of trapped by their teenage / young adult issues. But Giles, turned decades later, in his 40's, would have matured past those issues. I don't think I've ever seen anything address how the age a vamp was when turned affects what the vampire is like. Great. Now I'm picturing a Council member's graduate thesis. ;-)
I'm sure if someone was going to write Buffy/Hank or Joyce/Dawn they would have by now. But ick, those are creeping me out. You know the possibly oddest pairing I've ever seen: Ethan/Dawn. Can't say I get that one. Granted, the actor who played Ethan was hot, particularly once he had that goatee thing going, but with Dawn?
Let's see. I've definitely seen Willow/Xander that worked. Obviously W/G although the age thing makes it a bit odd for me. Yeah, I can see Willow with a lot of the characters but not with Buffy so much. Maybe because they have such a friends vibe on the show. On the other hand, I've also seen Xander work with each of the characters you've mentioned.
For some reason when I see the phrase W/G shippers, I read it as W/G worshippers. ;-)
