Day 7
In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Okay, I'm going with recs because yesterday I reread Komarr in the Vorkasigan series for the who knows what time and that sent me back to a fanfic I'd read, and I really wanted to rec it but most of the rec sites I'm part of are Buffyverse or Jossverse.
So, recs, and not because it's the easiest option!
A Night Vale fic, How I Survived My Summer Vacation, by Tamika Flynn, Age 12 3/4, which has come recommended to me from multiple sources.
The first book on Tamika Flynn's Summer Reading Program Sticker Chart is Lord of the Flies.
She doesn't really like it. Between the stupid boys (all boys, she notes with distaste) who don't even think to eat a pig's head before resorting to cannibalism, and the frustratingly coy descriptions of the cannibalism itself, it mostly annoys her.
Alive in your blood now, in the Vorkasigan saga, is the one I had to run off and read last night.
When the role call comes to “Vorkosigan,” Helen Natalia smiles, throws back her head, and casts her vote.
The Housemates series crosses Thor, Being Human (UK), and The Avengers.
After falling from the Bifrost, Loki landed in the back garden of a small house in Bristol, England, and was taken in by the occupants-- supernatural creatures who know a thing or two about what it feels like to think you are a monster.
Now that he's no longer all alone, or entirely an outcast, Loki just wants a peaceful life. However, when you're the God of Mischief (even if you're technically an alien, and not a god at all) adventures just seem to find you...
A Story Told in Kisses an Avengers AU where Captain America is female.
Perhaps the story begins earlier, when Stevie was trapped in the burning warehouse, or even earlier than that, when the God of Chaos had pulled the cowl off her head and seen her face for the very first time, but the first kiss comes later, and this is a story told in kisses.
I rec'ed this recently. The Immigrant Problem crosses the Lensman series with Battlestar Galactica.
Lensman fanfic! That's just so cool!
Summary: The Cylons finally found Earth. That was their big mistake...
And apparently I'm also giving you some BtVS because here come the fanvids
Giles/Ethan and The Masochism Tango
Robot Girlfriend
And I'm going to expand the definition of fanfic dramatically to give you the version of A Christmas Carol where Alistair Sim plays Scrooge, because it is totally the best version and I'm currently working on a short story set in this verse.

I'd forgotten when Buffy finds Joyce. I'm rewatching that season now. It's a lot better than I tend to think it is. I tend to recall how annoying Glory is and how annoying the Knights of Byzantium are but so much in this season other than that is very brilliant.
Yep, that is a good story.

I actually enjoyed Glory when I watched, although I can see why other people wouldn't. I think maybe she's better on paper? Th season that focuses on the women also has the first female Big Bad, who is a ramped-up version of early seasons Cordy or pre-SD Buffy, with a bit of Faith's "want, take, have" and a pre-cursor in some respects to Illyria.
I am sometimes uncomfortable with the connection the show makes to women and "madness" , but this season has fabulous parallels between Joyce's brain tumor and symptoms post-surgery (Listening to Fear), Glory's headaches as a symptom of her increasing "madness", the discomfort in this human form and the split with "Ben" that's leads to an increasing personality disintergration; mind-wiping Tara and taking away her memories; the monks stuffing memories into everyone's heads in the creation of Dawn; Buffy's mental breakdown, Willow entering her mind for positive purposes foreshadowing her intrusion into Glory's brain to steal Tara's mind back; which gives her the confidence to bring Buffy back in a much bigger way; leading to mind-wipe spells later....and Willow going black-eyed in vengeance against Glory foreshadowing Dark Willow.
Buffy and Giles' disagreement in The Gift re: Dawn's fate leads directly to Buffy closing the door on him in LMPTM.
That season is SO RICH without even talking about Spike. (I'm not saying he isn't important, just that he's hardly the most important thing either.)

Having never been a girly-girl I just look at Glory and think "really?". I shouldn't mind her temper tantrums since that I can relate to but they also bug me.
I am sometimes uncomfortable with the connection the show makes to women and "madness". Oh, good point. I hadn't thought about that.
the monks stuffing memories into everyone's heads in the creation of Dawn, which is related to why I'm rewatching this season. kwritten had made the point that Dawn has no core, that she's never had a chance to choose anything for herself. Even her favorite color was preset by the monks. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that, hence the rewatch.
