obscure or not obscure? That is my question.

how the thoth deck works

Isn't the Thoth Tarot deck an obscure reference?

I thought it was but when I posted this to facebook with the phrase "I know most of my friends won't get this, but it is hilarious if you do." my aunt got really pissy and replied with this: "I wish you'd stop announcing that you think most of your friends aren't as smart as you, or haven't had the same education."

It's not obscure to me, but I don't know how many of your friends are interested in tarot. Its obscurity is relative to your familiarity with the occult, I'd say, and I think your aunt may have overreacted a bit there.

Well, I've heard of it vaguely, enough that I can figure out the context of the joke and chuckle politely, but it's kind of like Tara's insect reflection thing.

(And it's definitely not the sort of thing I would call flaunting one's education, as I am unaware of any Tarot degrees out there...)

ETA: Thinking about it, maybe she thought you were bragging about understanding complicated math problems?

Admittedly, I've never heard of the Thoth Tarot Deck, but I still find the meme funny!
