I haven't read it for a long time. I don't recall the animal abuse one of the reviewers is complaining about.

I think the book really is about the history although there are couples that get together. Most of them are straight, but there is a relationship between two women. I think one of the men might be bisexual but, as I said, it's been a long time since I've read it so I'm not certain.

Piercy is a social activist. I liked the novel and I think I'd get bored if it were just about straight people hooking up.
