Diptych Drabble

Duet With An Audience Of One
Curled back against Angel, who holds him loosely, Xander taps his foot against Spike's calf in time to the tune Spike is strumming on his guitar. Not needing to see the flash of blue eyes, letting him know it's time to join back in, Xander starts singing.
“I need to feel your heartbeat, heartbeat, so close, it feels like my own...”
The song shifts to quiet strumming, calm and settling, until suddenly the music stops as Spike slams a hand across Angel's mouth.
“No singing.” At Angel's pout, he adds, “You are a part of us.”
“You're just the part of us that doesn't get to sing,” Xander says.
Trio
The fire crackles gently, adding warming the room. Xander leans up by Angel's side, providing more warmth than the fire. With one arm around Xander, Angel's beats out a rum a tim tum tum tum rhythm on the bodhrán feeling, after six years of practice, more than competent on his chosen instrument.
As Spike looks up from his strumming with a warm smile, Angel is warmed, even further, by the words, and the feeling behind them, that Xander sings. “The joy shared friendship brings, and now I know, yes didn't they know. Now I stand on solid ground, on solid ground...”
