a star, a tree

a star
a tree
and the longing in between

It is foolish
to let a young redwood
grow next to a house.

Even in this
one lifetime,
you will have to choose.

That great calm being,
this clutter of soup pots and books—

Already the first branch-tips brush at the window.
Softly, calmly, immensity taps at your life.

Mr. Holmes

I recently finished watching Mr. Holmes. It was brilliant. There are three threads: an aging Holmes who’s losing his memory, his last case which he cannot remember, and a trip to Japan. The narrative is complicated by flashbacks to the latter two threads although the story as a whole does not seem complex. It unfolds as a mystery. What I adored is that all three threads united into one simple point: the human heart needs more than logic.

I want the purposes behind my plots could be so simple and clear. I have a lot of work to do.
