Amelia by Carol Miller (National Poetry Month)
Carol was a friend who, unfortunately, died much too young. As my last entry for National Poetry Month, I present one of her poems: Ameila.
Amelia by Carol Miller
In memory of Betty Schneider
It wasn't all
that long ago
you left the atmosphere:
I'm standing where
I stood with you -
I stand alone down here.
I pace the beach,
watching the sky -
you left with -
out a word,
didn't wave goodbye.
Flight was freedom,
sky was heart -
you traveled by
instinct, not
someone else's chart.
Those who knew you
best
are the ones who
miss you most;
we don't boast of
knowing you -
we are grateful
for being blessed,
when the skies
are threatening
& I'm
not feeling strong -
I know that
Amelia's
here: Amelia's
been here all along.
When I wonder
what has happened
to the one
who loved me
most -
I know Amelia
sits out the storm
somewhere off
the
coast.
Amelia, if you've
found peace
I have found
peace
too -
Amelia, if you
hear me,
this is for,
this
is
for
you...

I've been crying lately myself, but because of my cat, who died in early March. It had brought up other deaths though, like my Mom. ;-(

{{hug}} I've lost a lot of people, too. Time does help - but nothing makes it go away.
