Fic: Mark It With 'D'

Put it in the oven and mark it with 'D' and bake that cake for baby and me. The red words were so bright against the eggshell white of the walls that they almost seemed to be shouting. Drusilla had some vague thought that it should be 'B' rather than 'D' but that didn't make any sense at all. Death began with the letter 'D'.

Mark it with 'D'. Drusilla's hands were still red, wet enough to mark the girl, the one who had taught her the rhyme. “Where are you?” Drusilla didn't let on that she knew where the girl was even though she could hear the rat-a-tat-tat of a heart pounding on the other side of the closet door: it was fun to play little games with children. Mark it with 'D' and bake that cake. The words seemed to be a command.

Bake that cake. It didn't make any sense. Getting the child into the oven would be very difficult. All the pans would have to be taken out. And afterward the girl wouldn't be edible at all. Bake that cake. The words were quite insistent. Drusilla supposed she'd have to obey.

Wonderfully chilling and scary, much like Drusilla herself. <333 Gorgeous little fic!

Thank you. I do like that it's both childlike and disturbing at the same time. ;-)

Oh yes, very Dru. Nursery rhymes and mayhem, even if she is a tad confused by the strange things asked of her.

Thank you. I do really enjoy writing Dru.

Thank you. It's fun to write Drusilla. ;-)

Didn't Buffy say something about *baking a cake* (as in like she is the unready cake for him) to Angel when he gave her the amulet at the cementery in season 7 right before the last fight against *The First*? She gave him hope that - maybe somewhere in the future - they could be together.
So Drusilla with her *listen to the stars* has mistaken that picture in her mind and try to *bake the cake* for her *daddy dearest*, so he can be happy again?
Yes, sure. That would be typical Dru.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-02-15 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I could see that. Particularly if it was the kind of happy that would turn him back into Angelus again. ;-)

Oh, okay. So it was a case of *lost in translation* again. *sigh*
In the german version they talking about *a cake* and not about *cookies*. So I got the wrong idea of it, but it would really be typical for Dru that she want to make her *daddy dearest* happy to get him back, right? :)

Dru is so much fun to write because she is such a wackjob anything goes. XD

I wasn't thinking about Angelus when I was writing this. I've only seen the 7th season once, quite a while back so I don't recall the cake/cookies. However I do agree with dhark_charlotte that Dru could have been thinking that.

Yikes, now that is deliciously creepy!

Thanks. I'm not sure why I love creepy stories, but I do. ;-)

Wow! I remember reading this when it was first posted, and I can't imagine why I didn't leave a comment. Such a great Dru.

Thanks. I do think this is one of my better stories. ;-)
