Words were power once. Words had been a wintery wind binding her life to that one perfect moment, preserving her glittering past. The wind had betrayed her, trapping her in a cage as cold as ice but as glittering as the sun, trapping her in the hollow shell of the only thing she'd ever wanted, trapping her where the screams raging in her mind echoed around her as little more than muffled whimpers, a dissonant din, a faint shade of the shrieking storm that only she could hear.

Fire came as a relief, allowing her to sink, finally, into silence.

Thanks. I've recently reviewed the first four episodes for my Giles as the Big Bad fic, which is how I thought of her. But yeah, she's there, trapped, unable to move from early in S1 to the end of S3. Mega ugh!

I missed this one! As Most people did I forgot about Catherine after the episode (except for Oz's one reference in S2); her fate is meant as a sort of traditional fairy tale (or Christian?) let the punishment fit the crime sort of deal, but I remember being horrified watching the ending of the Witch. Yes she did horrible things to her daughter but still... and that was in S1 so it's still being played for laughs on some level.

I never thought about her watching S3 and this is really tremendous. Wow.

I think I was having trouble responding to the prompt so I expanded the range of characters and came up with Catherine trapped in the award.

Oh, and going back to my comments I was reviewing episodes for the Giles as Big Bad fic. I'd seen the first four and was looking for something out of them. Actually that makes a lot of sense that I'd pick her then.
