dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (Francine angel)

not my problem ...

"We've prevented the Master from freeing himself and opening the Mouth of Hell. That's not to say he's going to stop trying." Um, why is Giles concerned that the Master might escape? He's had sixty years to try and it hasn't worked yet. His best bet occurs once a century and they just stopped it. Why isn't anyone saying that the Master can be someone else's problem?

TV show wise: it's a cheesy line to sell us the idea that the Master will be a weekly feature.

Head canon wise: Some fabulous Watcher-ness on Giles' part means he alone has a sense of foreboding that this guy is going to be trouble. Hence, that's why Giles is so concerned about the prophecy of the Annoying One. He Just Knows Shit Will Go Down.

Giles is smart enough to know that it might not be his fault or problem but it is his responsibility.

Because prophecies can go wrong both ways - if you can stop something that was prophesied from happening, then something that's impossible according to prophecies is still very much possible?

Plus, of course, he's right. The Master does rise again at the end of the season, and it's very much Giles' and Buffy's problem.
