Needing a different e-mail service

So my Yahoo mail won't come up on my computer. I've been getting Temporary Error 14 for days now. Even before that Yahoo was frustratingly slow so I'm thinking it's time to hang up this hat and use another e-mail service. What do you recommend? What do you like / dislike about ones you've used.

There are serious privacy concerns with gmail, so I do not recommend it. I too am on the lookout. If I find something, I will share.

HATE yahoo, but I'm loathe to change my email address. Definitely don't want gmail re: privacy issues mentioned above. Whjat to do!
