A poltergeisty First?

So I'm watching Conversations with Dead People in which both Dawn and Willow are visited by the First except for Dawn's visit there's this whole poltergeist thing going on. I thought the First had no physical aspect, which leads me to wonder how the poltergeist effect came about. Has anyone seen this explained?

I'm pretty sure Angel didn't have a plastic bag and a tube when Buffy lay dead in the Master's lair. ;-)

My brain now wants to play with the breath of life metaphor and how it relates to vampires but I'm too tired. ;-( That's what I get for getting up early to go for a walk before the really oppressive heat dropped down.
