In your own space, add something to your fandom’s canon.

This mutates canon, and I'm not sure that's what we're meant to do here, but in the movies, I hate how Pepper enables Tony. For example, he has that reporter woman overnight and then expects Pepper to kick her out in the morning. I think we're supposed to admire Pepper for being a total bitch to this woman who's just been treated terribly rudely. I honestly want to see Pepper realize that being around Tony's philandering when she has feelings for him is turning her into somebody she doesn't want to be. I want her to leave, to get herself out of that situation. Now that's a Pepper I'd admire.

And since people are posting canon-compliant stories, in the Fray comics (BtVS), Fray comes across an ancient Council library. In my canon, Andrew creates it for the next Slayer to come along in And I Shall Defend My Queen

Wen Ning in a Wolverine t-shirt for Seasons in the Sun. I didn't think about how difficult a Wolverine t-shirt would be to draw before deciding to put him in one. Actually, back then I didn't realize I'd be drawing regularly.

Day 3: In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Perfect timing! I just got back to posting to Seasons in the Sun today. It's an crossover between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Untamed. At the moment, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng are in Los Angeles where they've met up with Wen Ning and his crew, Cordelia Chase and Nissa, a blue-skinned girl with fangs and horns. As Jiang Cheng thought she was some sort of a creature, that didn't go as well as it could have.

Post the first sentence in you ten last fanfics, and see if you can draw any conclusions. - taken from scripsi's page
  1. There are two techniques by which discarnate demons, pure or, more accurately, impure spirits, may obtain influence within the human realm. - In a Corner of My Soul, a BtVS story with Giles as the Big Bad of Season 1
  2. With the water of the fountain splashing behind her, Willow stared over at Xander. - All Hail the Queen (the There Can Be Only One remix), BtVS
  3. After the war, Granny’d been forced out of welding.- Watching for Her Chance, Life on Mars
  4. Warm milk was best when one couldn’t sleep. - Warm Milk, Harvey
  5. He’d told himself he couldn’t violate tradition. - Fitly Done ... From Now On, BtVS
  6. He waited until the other mourners had left. - Prodigal Son, BtVS
  7. Some rules mattered, sure, but working a memory spell, that didn’t break any rules because there were no rules about spells.- Rules, BtVS
  8. Dear Professor Snape, Giles said to tell you – again – that there is nothing wrong with our herbs. - The Letters (the 84, Charing Cross Road remix), BtVS / Harry Potter
  9. He spent the early hours of the evening waiting (hoping) to hear the doorbell, but perhaps carolers didn’t sing at apartments and so Giles - after loading his pockets with a stake, a cross, and Holy Water - went out into the night. - Bethlehem Seek This Holy Night, BtVS
  10. The few working lights barely made a dent in the darkness, which was why backing the Carmaro in was not such a bright idea, not that you could tell Phil that. - Business Opportunity, BtVS
Not all of them grab my attention as I would have hoped and some of the don't give a good idea of what the story is about. I do like how well I caught some voices, in particular Willow's, Anya's, and Willy's.

And here are some for in-process works
  1. The boy had taken the tears and yet he lingered. - From Ember and Ashes, a BtVS / Harry Potter crossover that will eventually at least suggest Snape / Anya.
  2. Seven sparrows froze outside my window one night. Seven Sparrows, Original
  3. Gwen’s eyes had been stolen but she hadn’t noticed. - Eyes, Original but world strongly influenced by Buffy
The last two fit quite well with the themes / plots of the stories. For a reader familiar with the Harry Potter novels, the first says that Snape's dying which, in a story about Snape, is an interesting place to start.

Day 8: In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Apparently I'm supposed to be embarrassed about rec'cing my own fics? Not really, although picking through all my stories does make me wish I'd taken more time with a good number of them. And, all worksafe here.

Oh, But You're a Pretty Thing. BtVS Drabble. Angelus will follow Darla anywhere.

The Letters (the 84, Charing Cross Road Remix), a Snape/Anya story I wrote for the Circle of Friends remix, depicts a relationship in letters, e-mails, and wedding invitations.

One Zombie Two Zombie Red Zombie Dead Zombie. The BtVS episode "The Zeppo" if written by Dr. Seuss.

Marzipan, a Leverage fanfic, shows us Parkers first friend.

Sailing Towards the Dawn. Babylon 5. Dr. Franklin's hitchhiking days. He's running towards something, even if he doesnt' know it yet.

On This Side of Goodbye. BtVS. A Giles and Faith friendship fic.
This is the first time I tried a writing exercise: take your first sentence and rewrite it again and again and again. It did greatly improve the beginning of my story:
The room, red and gold everywhere, looked like someone’s virgin kid was about to be debauched. For all that Big Al had ranted on about intentions being a heavy-duty deal for the ritual, the room he’d dumped them in wasn’t raising anything pure in Faith’s thoughts. Taking one look at the overly-stuffed velvet chairs, she decided to stand. Angel was sitting. Of course Angel was sitting. He’d been practically shitting guilt ever since he, or Twilight using his body, had killed Giles. Faith was sort of surprised he hadn’t found a bed of nails to lie on. “What is it with magic users and furniture?” She kicked at one of the chairs. “I’d rather be strung up on a rack than sit on this thing. Is it some sort of prereq for the job, never being comfortable again?”

I've posted the Nightmares chapter of In a Corner of My Soul. Ethan comes to town. Buffy learns that Giles stabbed Owen. Giles finally gets his hands on an artifact that will allow him to kill Angel bothers the agents the Council sent to take Giles down since this makes him even more dangerous.

The story is available, by scenes rather than by chapters, on fanfiction.net.

It's Work in Progress week over on Tumblr and so here is a scene from my oldest, and actually only at the moment, WiP. The story, In a Corner of My Soul, features Giles as the Big Bad. Backstory:  when they killed of Eyghon, the demon formed a mental attachment to Ripper's mind. In response to the stress, Giles' mind split into three personalities: Giles and Ripper, the guardians, and Rupert who doesn't know about the other two personalities ... yet.

In this scene, Giles and Ethan are merging their minds to locate the Aurelian Amulet which can weaken any vampire of the Aurelian line.

Day 9 of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Oooh, Sailing Toward the Dawn! I believe this is the only Babylon 5 fic I've written: During his hitchhiking days, Stephen realizes he isn't just running way. He's running to something, even if he doesn't know what it is yet.

On This Side of Goodbye : my version of the ritual to restore Giles' life and what followed after. It's based on the comics but explores a friendship between Faith and Giles.

One Zombie, Two Zombie, Red Zombie, Dead Zombie : If Dr. Seuss had written "The Zeppo"

In the Middle of a Mistake : My take on how Giles and Ethan first met.
Ripper drew the sword back until it wasn't quite touching skin. “And what would you be doing here, Ethan Rayne? Are you what I've been hunting?”
“Gods, I hope not.”

Oh, but You're a Pretty Thing : Angelus would follow Darla anywhere, drabble

Sad That You Can't Hear : After Jenny's death, Rupert talks to her, speaking as if she were there

dragonyphoenix: Katchoo from Strangers in Paradise (katchoo)
So I just finished reading the Buffy origin graphic novel. I haven't seen the movie in a good while, but it's fairly close. All in all I thought it was okayish. Having seen the movie, I didn't really need to read the comic.

My least favorite bit about the comic is that it lost my favorite line from the movie: Pike's response when his vamped friend asks to be invited in. "Invite you in? Man, you're floating!" Not only is it hilarious but it's a fun reference to Salem's Lot.

My favorite scene from the comic is when Buffy tries to pray after her Watcher killed himself to prevent Lothos from Turning him. She starts out with "Our Father who art in Heaven" but doesn't know the prayer and starts talking, as her prayer, to her Watcher. Blew me away when she ended her talk to her Watcher with "Amen."

I think Lothos should have looked like a young, hot Rutger Hauer but that could be just me.

At the end of the comic, we suddenly learn that Buffy is telling her story to Xander and Willow. Eh, I'd have been okay with that if Sunnydale scenes had bookmarked the story, been shown at both the start and the end rather than just being a surprise at the end. I also wasn't thrilled with "What happened to PIke is another story."

All in all, not worth the read.

But look at how awesome a villain Rutger Hauer makes!

While I can't argue with Once More, With Feeling for the title of the musical episode, there is a song called Disco Apocalypse. Come on, how much more awesome would it have been to call it Disco Apocalypse?

Surprise!

Nerdist shows that Angelus could have bitten into the neck and breathed in cigarette smoke! Considering this has always seriously bugged me, mind blown!

Rules

Title: Rules
Disclaimer: They aren't mine but they will be, once I've taken over the world! Bwah-ha-ha!
Character: Willow
Summary: When it comes to Tara, Willow thinks rules don't matter.
Note: I'd meant to write a story for the last-line-first-line game at Giles Shorts, but I went off with the line to think of a story and came up with one about Willow, no Giles appearances whatsoever. *shakes head* Since the original game was to post a pure drabble, 100 words exactly, this diptych has 100 words in each section.

Some rules mattered, sure, but working a memory spell, that didn’t break any rules because there were no rules about spells. Anyway, it was of the good because reducing conflict, that meant less stress, and everyone knew that cortisol and epinephrine were bad for your health. So, really, she was helping.

And sneaking the Lethe’s Bramble into her pocket, that wasn’t really stealing. It wasn’t her fault that Anya was nosy and loud and couldn’t keep a secret even if you paid her. Well, maybe if you paid her. But this was private, Willow’s alone. Nobody else had to know.

***

She saw red. A hole, dark against the blue of the sweater. Tara on the floor. No. No no please no.

“By Osiris, I command you, bring her back!”

Tara. So still. Please come back. Please. Please.

Alone. Not good enough. Never good enough. Not good enough to have. Not good enough to keep. Alone again. Alone.

The wound. Gunshot. Not a demon. Human malice. Warren. Could have stopped him, but had to play by the rules. Look what that got you.

Tara. Please. Please.

He didn’t care about rules. Why should she? Rules didn’t matter. Rules were for fools.

Oooh, look. Restfield made me a pretty! Thank you! It's perfect for my story.
Mmm, I really love the skin giving way to show the demonish face beneath. Perfect!

Theme: We are all powerful women together. Powerful. Sensual. Vulnerable. Angry. Scary. Amazing.

Buffy Vids:
Robot Girlfriend: A meta on the objectification of women using scenes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Aqua's song "Robot Girlfriend".
Handlebars: A Willow character study. Words - well my words at least - cannot say how amazing this is.
Transparent: Another Willow character study, completely different but just as brilliant.
Scarlett Ribbons: Slayers, blood, power, and a Tiptree quote. What more do you need?
Shiver: Tara/Willow. Damn it! Makes me cry.
Faith Lehane: Viokent and Unpredictable

Fanfic:
In the Light of Two Moons: Babylon 5: Catherine Sakai, pregnant with Sinclair's child and trapped on an abandoned Shadow prison planet after the Vorlons and Shadows have left the galaxy. Delightful story, well worth the read even if it is unfinished.
Aftershock: Buffy: Helpless AU with Dawn. Yes, it's the we are all powerful women together story!
Bread: Buffy: AU: Willow and Tara coming together again. Oh, this is so sweet. And, gosh, my eyes, once again, are full of tears.
Alive In Your Blood Now: Vorkosigan Saga: Helen Natalia growing up. Her brother was born first, but she's the one who wants the countship and all the responsibilities that go with it. This one's a rollercoaster: tears, cheers. Wonderful tale.
