Deathly Hallows part 2

Just finished the last Harry Potter movie. I'd missed the Deathly Hallows part 2 when it first came out. I'd had this big whole clinical depression thing going on back then. It was pretty bad in the summer of 2011 when, on top of my depression, I was dealing with people at work who were seriously wigging out because the company was downsizing. I thought it was cause for celebration.

  • Filch taking all the Slytherin students to the dungeons. So , what, Syltherin automatically equals evil? I'm not completely thrilled with that although in the middle of an attack I can see not having time for subtleties. But Draco grabs two of the students later so at least some of them avoided the dungeon.

  • McGonigal: I always wanted to use that spell. Um, the castle's under attack and she's happy she gets to use that defensive spell? She's really big into the glass being half full, isn't she.

  • I think it's awesome that those giant spiders are part of the forces attacking the castle.

  • And I haven't said this before, but this movie is incredible. I usually watch bits of movies as I'm eating. Yes, I know you're not supposed to eat in front of the tv. I do it anyway. So I generally don't watch movies through in one go. This one I couldn't turn off.

  • Hermione's bag: because women just have to carry everything wit them! ;-)

  • Snape's last words: You have your mother's eyes. That pretty much sums him up, doesn't it?

  • Oh, okay, and I just got why Snape was hiding his memories. They could not be revealed to Harry until the proper moment.

  • Harry if a horcrux!

  • Oooh, I like that there's a resurrection stone inside the snitch.

  • Kikimay told me I'd cry during this movie. She was right. Just as Harry's talking with the ghosts before the battle with Voldemort, I was crying.

  • I think witches and warlocks are going to have trouble believing that Voldemort is truly gone for good this time.

Harry going to the forest alone will always be my downfall. I cry so hard during that scene.

Also there are differences with the books and Voldy is one of those. He dies as a normal person after all his mess - which is really clever. Well done, JK! - but I do like the fading thing in the movie. It seems like he's made of paper and for some reasons I find that visually satisfying.

I also think that McGonagall didn't have time for politically correct at that point. Slytherins do have a bad reputation and we need more Slytherin heroes!

I want Hermione's purse. I think that's the ultimate fantasy. Also I eat too watching movies. Who doesn't?

It was really brave for you to watch this movie even if it's connected to bad memories. I tend to avoid things like that.

Yeah, Voldemort did look papery as he faded away. It was a cool image.

The movie itself isn't connected to bad memories. Bad things were going on in my life when it came out, but I don't associate the two. And, yeah, I did first read the book right after my mother had died, but I doubt I associate that either. I guess I'll see when the library comes through with the book.

Yeah, as a proud Slytherin, I never cared for the fact that they are all treated as "evil." Especially in the last book. I am glad Draco finds his way into the fold at least.

DH Part 2 is an excellent film though. I love it!

dirge without music's turncoat (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2399867) has a lovely defense of Slytherin.
