We Three Kings

The painting is by J.C. Leyendecker who was a prolific German-American illustrator in the early 20th century. He created hundreds of illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post and was influenced by the works of Alphonse Mucha, a prominent Czech artist who was influential in the Art Nouveau movement of the late 1800's.

Weirdly, it reminds me a little bit of some of the storybook illustrations of Maxfield Parrish.

Same sort of mythic feel.

That is very cool.

It's interesting to me because usually two of the magi are depicted as European and one African. Here one of the European magi is replaced by an Egyptian. I've never seen that elsewhere, although admittedly my exposure to representations of the magi is fairly limited.
