Snowflake Challenge: Recast

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner featuring an image of a chubby brown and red bird surrounded by falling snow. Text: Snowflake Challenge January 1-31.

In your own space, tell us who you would recast in a film, tv series or webseries, or maybe someone voicing a cartoon or videogame. Or who would you cast to play a character in a book, comic or maybe even your own fiction!

I don't follow actors so this is an almost impossible one for me. My intro to fandom (read: first fandom obsession) was Buffy. Lately I've been into C-dramas and K-dramas; so I decided to take characters from a few of those that I've seen (Nirvana in Fire, The Untamed, Legend of Fei, and Bulgasal) and put then into BtVS roles.

Buffy
Zhao Li Ying (Legend of Fei) as Buffy because she's proven she can play a spunky fighter.

As Princes Nian Nian (Nirvana in Fire), we've seen her fight. Unfortunately women have smaller roles so it's harder for me to see how they'd fit into BtVS.

Willow
Angel Wang (Qin Banrou in Nirvana in Fire) as Willow because Willow does go down that darker path.

I've suggested her as Buffy but I also like her here.

I was going to suggest the actress who played Mian Mian, but I think Chen Zhuo Xuan's portrayal of A-Qing / Little Blind suggests she's make an excellent Willow.

Xander
Yu Bin (Wen Ning / the Ghost General in the Untamed) because he can play dorky teen so well.

Guo Xiao Ran could bring his Yuan Yujin (Nirvana in Fire) energy to the role of Xander.

Kim Woo Seok (Bulgasal)

Giles
I know Marquis Ning is evil in Nirvana in Fire, but I still think he'd make a good Giles if he could bring enough humor to the role.

On the other hand, Chen Long plays Meng Zhi well as both comic relief and a serious character.

I could see Jeong Jin-yeong (the detective turned PI and also the main character's adoptive father in Bulgasal) playing Giles.

Angel
I'm not sure why I like Liu Hai Kuan (Lan Xichen in The Untamed) as Angel. Perhaps I think he'd brood well?

Spike
I first liked Zhu Zanjin (Meng Yao in The Untamed) as Spike because he can look so beautiful and so evil at the same time but Spike as more energy (motion?) than the characters I've seen him portray (in The Untamed and Miss the Dragon.

So now I'm thinking
Wang Hao Xuan (Xue Yan in The Untamed) because he does sexy murder so well.

Same actor as above, in character. He'd make such a great Spike.

The Mayor
I adore the idea of Zhang Jing Tong (Yu Zi Yuan in The Untamed) as the Mayor but in BtVS the guy's been the mayor for hundreds of years and for historical accuracy there just wouldn't have been a woman mayor that far back. So let's say she's been the power behind the throne for most of that time and has only stepped into the role of mayor recently as the Ascension approaches.

Alternately Victor Huang (Prince Yu in Nirvana in Fire) would do a good job as the mayor.

Anya
I know I've cast her as Willow but I could also see her as demon-Anya.

Quentin
As the representative from northern Yan, he can clearly play a sort of a jerk guy who's higher up in the hierarchy.

As Lan Qiren, James Huang played one stuffy, rule-abiding (rule-loving?) bureaucrat. He's perfect for Quentin.

Others
I adore his role as Baili Qi (Nirvana in Fire). It's minor but he got some funny moves when he's fighting the kids. There's this whole head tile that says "come on already" that I just adore. I don't have a specific role for him, but I'd want to see him.

These are great! Based purely on your photos, I like Jeong Jin-yeong for Giles. And your pick for Angel looks fabulous as well.

Wilkins founded Sunnydale in 1899 and there actually were female mayors in the U.S. in the late 19th century.

(Although there weren't very many of them and a female Wilkins might still have preferred to be the "power behind the throne" in the interests of keeping a relatively low profile.)
