A poltergeisty First?

So I'm watching Conversations with Dead People in which both Dawn and Willow are visited by the First except for Dawn's visit there's this whole poltergeist thing going on. I thought the First had no physical aspect, which leads me to wonder how the poltergeist effect came about. Has anyone seen this explained?

Nope. I strongly suspect that the writers weren't absolutely certain where they were going at that point.

I'm going to say the First called in some favours and got a poltergeist buddy to spin some shit.

I think I remember something like someone was talking to Dawn (Tara or Willow? not sure who it was) about that poltergeist-thing in the end of the episode and saying that it also could have been really the ghost of Dawn's mum giving them a warning for the future.
Now I really think I have to rewatch the serie again. :)
What season and what episode was it again?

I always thought there was a real demon that Dawn was having to cast out here, either an agent of the first who was helping it make a convincing show of pretending to be Joyce fighting this demon to get to Dawn, or a good-guy/non-aligned demon who was trying to stop the first from manifesting to her as Joyce.

Random digression: I love her incantation here. "I cast you out with the strength of those who love me! I cast you out with the strength I have inside me!" Yeah, if you're hearing that from Dawn Summers, you better run!
