A poltergeisty First?

So I'm watching Conversations with Dead People in which both Dawn and Willow are visited by the First except for Dawn's visit there's this whole poltergeist thing going on. I thought the First had no physical aspect, which leads me to wonder how the poltergeist effect came about. Has anyone seen this explained?

Nope. I strongly suspect that the writers weren't absolutely certain where they were going at that point.

That's what I figured.

I'm going to say the First called in some favours and got a poltergeist buddy to spin some shit.

I could see that. The First was certainly enough of a big deal that something along those lines could have gone down.

I think I remember something like someone was talking to Dawn (Tara or Willow? not sure who it was) about that poltergeist-thing in the end of the episode and saying that it also could have been really the ghost of Dawn's mum giving them a warning for the future.
Now I really think I have to rewatch the serie again. :)
What season and what episode was it again?

7th season: Conversations with Dead People.

It's, I think, on the second CD in my 7th season set.

I'm more inclined to think they weren't sure what rules they were playing by.

Oh, and I just saw the turok han drowning Spike. It reminded me of S1 when Angel said he had no breath. I'm not sure dunking a vamps head under water would draw water into his lungs.

Yes, Angel couldn't rescue Buffy so Xander did the breathing. :)
But if you really think about it, it was some kind of logical mistake, because Vampires can breath, if they want to, but it will have no effect on them for (un)life.
If they can't breath, how would Spike smoke his cigarettes? LOL :D

Yeah, and we've seen Angelus smoking as well.

Yes! "How hast thou breath to tell me thou art out of breath?" You can 'breathe life' into someone with a plastic back and a tube! But they are getting all metaphory with the 'breath of life' here (slight jazz hands).

I always pretend that what he actually meant was that if a vampire breathes a human back to life they come back soulless and demonic.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2014-06-19 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's actually rather awesome.

I'm pretty sure Angel didn't have a plastic bag and a tube when Buffy lay dead in the Master's lair. ;-)

My brain now wants to play with the breath of life metaphor and how it relates to vampires but I'm too tired. ;-( That's what I get for getting up early to go for a walk before the really oppressive heat dropped down.

I always thought there was a real demon that Dawn was having to cast out here, either an agent of the first who was helping it make a convincing show of pretending to be Joyce fighting this demon to get to Dawn, or a good-guy/non-aligned demon who was trying to stop the first from manifesting to her as Joyce.

I like the agent of the First idea better. It makes more sense to me.

Random digression: I love her incantation here. "I cast you out with the strength of those who love me! I cast you out with the strength I have inside me!" Yeah, if you're hearing that from Dawn Summers, you better run!
