Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I tried reading the book some time back and couldn't get into it but I thought I'd give the series a try. It started a bit slow but did have me intriged by the end of the first episode/chapter. It got better. It kept getting better. By the end, it's amazing.

I read the book when it was up for a Hugo Award many years ago. I found the Mr. Norrell POV stuff at the beginning really rough to get through, but I persevered because I felt strongly about reading everything on the ballot if I was going to vote. (I have dropped that stance since the people have started deliberately nominating dreck for the Hugo Awards.) The book really picked up for me once Jonathan Strange entered the picture, and got better as it went along, to the point that it got my vote for the Hugo despite the plodding start.

Glad to hear that the TV series is good. I'll have to check it out sometime.

The series sounds a lot like the book that way then. Boring at the start but gets better and better later. I'm going to give the book another try so thanks for saying that it's the Norrell section that's plodding. That'll help get me through it.

*grin* I'm quite pleased with how excellent that series became.
