dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (Francine angel)

Why is Giles having his texts scanned?

In the eight episode -  i, robot ... you, jane - why is Giles having his texts scanned? Jenny makes some comment about an index and a database but Giles hasn't gone near it. Given how much of a Luddite Giles is, the database is obviously not for him. He has no interest in using it at all.

Hmm, lets see. Many of the texts were written in languages other than English, most of them likely in archaic forms of said langues. Also, the texts were handwritten, or a good number of them were. I doubt even today's OCR software would be up to the task. Lovely idea though and it would have been unbelievably useful to them.

And while I'll go along with Jenny wearing the pants, they were still sniping at each other at the start of this episode so that can't be why he agreed to this.

True, though there are OCR programs for non-english text. and as long as a book is in the latin, it should still be searchable. true though that archaic textforms and more obscure languages wouldn't work. Scooby crowdsourced project perhaps?!

As for Jenny & Giles + pants, someone fic it! :P

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
That really does need to be written. I'm busy prepping for NaNoWriMo.

[identity profile] zooeys-bridge.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe someone else will see the idea, cave, and do it :)

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
It could happen. That's how I got sucked in to writing Giles as the big bad of season 1 (story planning currently in process and probably on-hold during November).

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hold up hold up hold up!

I asked for prompts and NO ONE said "Jenny & Giles + Pants - Go!"?

Right then. I kinda wanna play with that. Though, I can't promise it'll be anything less than crack, because I'm cool like that.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, sorry? I obviously wasn't thinking at all.

I think a crack!fic would be awesome. ;-)

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I love crack!fic. I love just silliness for no reason. It will have nothing to do with scanning books. It will probably have everything to do with pants. Probably.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-10-29 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* I honestly didn't expect it to have anything to do with scanning books.

*points to icon*

I prefer to use the term "seduced" ;)

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-11-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Well, I did volunteer so I can work with seduced.

But I'm not sure what your icon has to do with it.

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2013-11-01 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
My icon? oh, Nothing other than *laughing my ass off here*

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-11-01 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
What? I'm nothing more than an object of humor to you? *pout*

Well, okay, *snicker*

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-10-30 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
DONE

Think of me as your scary, veiny, fic-giving good fairy.

http://clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com/13671.html

It is pure crack.

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-10-30 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yu huh! I could NOT resist that prompt.

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2013-11-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)

Think of me as your scary, veiny, fic-giving good fairy.

Works for me!

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-11-02 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
See, it's like I told you - I'm Anya, making things better for the Fandom's scorned.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-11-02 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you specified who you are because "scary, veiny"? I was thinking about to destroy the world Willow.

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Cordy calls her that in "The Wish", but it's totally not a line that's memorable. I was just being weird - me and [livejournal.com profile] red_satin_doll have this thing going on. I say I'm Anya, getting vengeance for the women Fandom scorns. I'm welcoming Jenny to the vengeance fold.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Cordy calls Anya that? Yeah, I don't quite recall it.

So if Jenny is in the vengeance fold you're not gonna, oh I don't know ... come after me if I sorta kill her in my story, um are you?

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I won't come after you... Probably. Depends if it's a slow day or not.

I'm thinking of an afterlife fic with her starring, anyway. So maybe there's fictional life after fictional death?

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I forgot Cordy calls Anya that! (Doesn't Xander say that in Grave?)

Anyhoo...I'm just surprised it's taken anyone this long to take up the cause so - yay!

Jenny as a Vengeance demon - I like that better than the First using her face without her consent.

Speaking of scorned women - why are there thousands of Spike & Dawn fics but almost ZERO Tara & Dawn fics? (Or even Buffy & Dawn fics?)

Just sayin'

[identity profile] clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he calls her "scary, veiny Willow". Boy, they do like to recycle lines, don't they?

Jenny as a vengeance demon would be interesting - but what would she be? We'd have to come up with a niche.

And you're trying to sneak the prompts in now, aren't you? I wish my Dawn voice wasn't so awful - I really have to work on her. I think it goes back to the shippy thing - it's more likely to get readers if it has a m/f dynamic a lot of the time, whether it's shippy or not. Then again, it could just be because Spike gets a lot more fandom love in general.

[identity profile] dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com 2013-10-30 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if you saw that Jenny & GIles + pants (http://clockwork-hart1.livejournal.com/13671.html?style=mine) has been written. That was quick!
