Why is Giles having his texts scanned?

dragonyphoenixIn the eight episode - i, robot ... you, jane - why is Giles having his texts scanned? Jenny makes some comment about an index and a database but Giles hasn't gone near it. Given how much of a Luddite Giles is, the database is obviously not for him. He has no interest in using it at all.

And you're trying to sneak the prompts in now, aren't you? I wish my Dawn voice wasn't so awful - I really have to work on her. I think it goes back to the shippy thing - it's more likely to get readers if it has a m/f dynamic a lot of the time, whether it's shippy or not. Then again, it could just be because Spike gets a lot more fandom love in general.
