B5 not making sense; brain hurts

So I'm watching Babylon 5, the episode where Marcus sends a breakfast of eggs and bacon to Ivanova. Garibaldi and Sheridan are commenting that it's impossible to get eggs and bacon to the station, however, later in that same episode, we learn it's a two day jump to Earth space, meaning the Earth's solar system based on where the come out. What, have they forgotten the basic technology behind refridgerators? Do no ships go directly from Earth space to B5?
