First some oldies but goodies
Alive in your blood now: A Vorkosigan fic where Miles' daughter inherits the countship. Delightful fic, I really adore it, that explores discrimination. Author's summary: When the roll call comes to “Vorkosigan,” Helen Natalia smiles, throws back her head, and casts her vote.

Radio Silence: Eeeee! This is so great. The author describes it better than I ever could: The Gentlemen (BtVS) drop by Night Vale. This poses something of a problem for a radio host who depends on his voice to communicate. Not to mention for the people in town who aren't too keen on having their hearts cut out.

And some I discovered this past year
It Will All Come Out in the Wash: (The Untamed) I recently went to town over feline_somnanbulist's Jiang Cheng overcoming family trauma stories. Don't know what it is about them, but so much fun.

grave goods: (The Untamed) Wei Ying, PhD candidate, licensed mortician, and world's second best boyfriend, after Lan Zhan, of course, thinks he knows all there is to know about grief until the sudden deaths of his adoptive parents upend the lives of everyone in their orbit. A study in grief, mourning, and semi-intentional child acquisition.

Mass in B Minor: A Good Omens vid that makes me want to run out and rewatch.

Going with the cookie trees image because I've just started watching The Great British Bake Off which is so. Much. FUN!

I was thinking of reccing one story for each fandom I've bookmarked on AO3 but, whoa! I had no idea I'd bookmarked so many fandoms! I thought I'd just go with my fave from this year, which is awesome, but this day's post suggests we can rec old faves as well.

I have been waiting for this one! Most amazing fanfic I've read this year is Scarlett Storm's It Seems the Hills and Rivers Have Been Waiting (The Untamed). Trans pig farmer cultivates the Boar Path, basically being super toned and strong and bad-ass. Best part? Jiang Cheng has a thing for her. But he won't act on it because he doesn't want to be that Sect Leader (read: Jin Guangshan). They are an adorable couple. Fan Dingxian is just ... awesome. I highly, highly, highly recommend this. It's great.

we must unite inside her walls or we'll crumble from within (Harry Potter) is a look at the women of the Harry Potter world. Delightful and unexpected takes on each of them. Here's a bit from the story on Andromeda Tonks:

"I want to be like you when I grow up."

Andromeda had suggested Hermione Granger, who had saved the world, or Auror Patil, or lovely Luna Lovegood. "I'm just an old woman poking her nose places it doesn't belong. I'm sneaky, and sometimes I'm mean. I'm no hero."

The girl had shaken her head. "But I want to be me, don't you get it? I'm a Slytherin. And you're the first person I've ever met who made it look like being me was an ok thing to be. I can't be anyone else. I've tried."

Seduction By Winglet pairs Tony Stark (Marvel Universe) with Martin Crief (Cabin Pressure). It looks like a crack pairing, but it's not. They are both such geeks that it works. Diversions, which is a spin-off by another author, is also excellent.

In the Morning of the Magicians (BtVS): I don't care what any canon authority says, this is definitely Ripper and Ethan's backstory.

And a video: Trisha Jain thought that My Tears Ricochet "perfectly encapsulates, line for line, the fractured sibling relationship between Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng." She's so right.

One:
Excerpts from A.Z. Fell and Co.’s Yelp Page by itsclydebitches: Good Omens fan? Check out the Yelp page for Aziraphale's bookstore. It's quirky. It's fun. I highly reccommend it. Oh, and there's also a part 2.
Excerpt:
I walked in. There was a man screaming at a fern while another threatened him with an umbrella. I walked out.

5 stars do recommend.

Two:
Legacy by DesireeArmfeldt (Slings and Arrows): I like how Geoffrey and Jack stay in each other's lives and expand each other's horizons both personally and professionally. Sweet story.

Three:
How I Survived My Summer Vacation, by Tamkia Flynn, Age 12 3/4 by thingswithwings (Welcome to Night Vale): a look at how friendships for in Night Vale (under strange and terrifying circumstances).

Four:
Star Trek Continues: The original series was a 5 year mission. They shot four (if you discount the animated series). Star Trek Continues shows us what a fifth year might have looked like. While maintaining the core crew, it also introduces some new characters. Quite true to the original series. Also I adore that they go back to the Mirror 'Verse.

Five
Death Comes for the Microbot by Aimee Picchi: This short story is not a fanwork but I'm reccing it anyway because I've just read it for the nth time and damn if it didn't bring tears to my eyes ... again.

Six:
freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose by synecdochic
(Stargate Atlantis): Rodney carries on after he's back on Earth.

dragonyphoenix: (i must squee!)

Apparently I'm supposed to be embarrassed about rec'cing my own fics? Not really, although picking through all my stories does make me wish I'd taken more time with a good number of them. And, all worksafe here.

Oh, But You're a Pretty Thing. BtVS Drabble. Angelus will follow Darla anywhere.

The Letters (the 84, Charing Cross Road Remix), a Snape/Anya story I wrote for the Circle of Friends remix, depicts a relationship in letters, e-mails, and wedding invitations.

One Zombie Two Zombie Red Zombie Dead Zombie. The BtVS episode "The Zeppo" if written by Dr. Seuss.

Marzipan, a Leverage fanfic, shows us Parkers first friend.

Sailing Towards the Dawn. Babylon 5. Dr. Franklin's hitchhiking days. He's running towards something, even if he doesnt' know it yet.

On This Side of Goodbye. BtVS. A Giles and Faith friendship fic.
This is the first time I tried a writing exercise: take your first sentence and rewrite it again and again and again. It did greatly improve the beginning of my story:
The room, red and gold everywhere, looked like someone’s virgin kid was about to be debauched. For all that Big Al had ranted on about intentions being a heavy-duty deal for the ritual, the room he’d dumped them in wasn’t raising anything pure in Faith’s thoughts. Taking one look at the overly-stuffed velvet chairs, she decided to stand. Angel was sitting. Of course Angel was sitting. He’d been practically shitting guilt ever since he, or Twilight using his body, had killed Giles. Faith was sort of surprised he hadn’t found a bed of nails to lie on. “What is it with magic users and furniture?” She kicked at one of the chairs. “I’d rather be strung up on a rack than sit on this thing. Is it some sort of prereq for the job, never being comfortable again?”

dragonyphoenix: Francine from Strangers in Paradise (Francine bliss)
Day 2: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

jenhill7's
The Lamb is a Tara / Willow fic in which they don't meet until after Season 7. It's been ages since I've read it; images of Willow and Tara in lucystonersix's Closer reminded me of it. (Thanks to gracenm for reccing the vid.) Tara is a nurse who gives of herself to heal others. It's a very interesting look at sacrifice. The characters are well-written and the Tara / Willow interaction just rocks.

flawedamethyst's
Seduction By Winglet series. I know Martin Crieff / Tony Stark doesn't sound like a plausible pairing but damned does flawedamethyst make it work.

AMarguerite's
An Ever-Fixed Mark is an exploration of the soulmark trope within a Pride and Prejudice AU. I am now officially a fan of exploring who else Elizabeth Bennet could have become if she'd married differently.

From What Seemed like a ruin by alby_mangroves and rohkeutta.Bucky heals by raising a goshawk. I like it. The story's slow. It shows a healing that takes its time.

I have a fair number of friends who post what they’ve been reading lately so I thought I’d give it a go.

Claire North’s The Sudden Appearance of Hope features a forgettable woman, forgettable in that once she’s out of sight people forget her in about a minute. It’s an interesting premise – although it reminds me of a story I read decades ago about a man who’s forgotten by everyone each morning – and the writing’s quite good. I’m about a third of the way through it and definitely recommend it.

Because I’m still under the weather – darn cold that won’t go away – I’ve been revisiting an old favorite, Lois McMaster Bujold’s Memory, my favorite of the Vorkosigan books. I think I like it because he grows up in this book, decides who he wants to be. I first read it when I was thinking along those same lines.

When I was even more ill and looking for something light, KJ Charles’ Band Sinister, a male / male romance that pokes fun at Gothic romances while being one. I read it twice.

And, of course, fanfiction! AMarguerite An Ever-Fixed Mark is a meta on the soulmark trope, an identifying mark that reveals ones soul-mate, using Pride and Prejudice. It’s a delightful read that allows you to pick your ending: Elizabeth Bennet married (at the end) to Mr. Darcy, Colonel Fitzwilliam, or the Duke of Wellington. She marries Colonel Fitzwilliam first in all of them and it’s fascinating to see her as a soldier’s wife, following the drum as it were. I think the author is a history buff if not a historian; she has the details down.

Because I adore Indri's In the Morning of the Magicians - Giles and Ethan, the electric Kool-Aid funky Satan groove year, in the early seventies - I decided to check out her rec list. Unfortunately, many of the links are dead. So I've been looking up the stories and have decided to post the currently working links here. I'm not posting her text, just the author, story titles, and links.
