dragonyphoenix: (i must squee!)

Day 8: In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Apparently I'm supposed to be embarrassed about rec'cing my own fics? Not really, although picking through all my stories does make me wish I'd taken more time with a good number of them. And, all worksafe here.

Oh, But You're a Pretty Thing. BtVS Drabble. Angelus will follow Darla anywhere.

The Letters (the 84, Charing Cross Road Remix), a Snape/Anya story I wrote for the Circle of Friends remix, depicts a relationship in letters, e-mails, and wedding invitations.

One Zombie Two Zombie Red Zombie Dead Zombie. The BtVS episode "The Zeppo" if written by Dr. Seuss.

Marzipan, a Leverage fanfic, shows us Parkers first friend.

Sailing Towards the Dawn. Babylon 5. Dr. Franklin's hitchhiking days. He's running towards something, even if he doesnt' know it yet.

On This Side of Goodbye. BtVS. A Giles and Faith friendship fic.
This is the first time I tried a writing exercise: take your first sentence and rewrite it again and again and again. It did greatly improve the beginning of my story:
The room, red and gold everywhere, looked like someone’s virgin kid was about to be debauched. For all that Big Al had ranted on about intentions being a heavy-duty deal for the ritual, the room he’d dumped them in wasn’t raising anything pure in Faith’s thoughts. Taking one look at the overly-stuffed velvet chairs, she decided to stand. Angel was sitting. Of course Angel was sitting. He’d been practically shitting guilt ever since he, or Twilight using his body, had killed Giles. Faith was sort of surprised he hadn’t found a bed of nails to lie on. “What is it with magic users and furniture?” She kicked at one of the chairs. “I’d rather be strung up on a rack than sit on this thing. Is it some sort of prereq for the job, never being comfortable again?”

Day 8

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Babylon 5. I want to say it's the characters that sell the series for me, and they do. They are unique. They have their own voices. But the plotlines also rock. The show, as a whole, is just brilliant. And I wish I were better at describing it.

Since I started discussing characters, I will say that two of my favorite characters are Vir and Zack Allan because they represent two sides of the same coin. Zack falls for Nighwatch's line, taking the armband for a bit of extra cash, and finds himself trapped, working for an evil organization with no way out. Vir sees evil for what it is. He's not deceived. I'm more like Zack but wish I could be more like Vir.

And of course, there's Susan Ivanova

Day 9 of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Oooh, Sailing Toward the Dawn! I believe this is the only Babylon 5 fic I've written: During his hitchhiking days, Stephen realizes he isn't just running way. He's running to something, even if he doesn't know what it is yet.

On This Side of Goodbye : my version of the ritual to restore Giles' life and what followed after. It's based on the comics but explores a friendship between Faith and Giles.

One Zombie, Two Zombie, Red Zombie, Dead Zombie : If Dr. Seuss had written "The Zeppo"

In the Middle of a Mistake : My take on how Giles and Ethan first met.
Ripper drew the sword back until it wasn't quite touching skin. “And what would you be doing here, Ethan Rayne? Are you what I've been hunting?”
“Gods, I hope not.”

Oh, but You're a Pretty Thing : Angelus would follow Darla anywhere, drabble

Sad That You Can't Hear : After Jenny's death, Rupert talks to her, speaking as if she were there

dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (eyes)
I just finished by Babylon 5 rewatch with tears in my eyes.
“Mostly, though, I think it gave us  hope that there can always be new beginnings, even for people like us.”

In the second movie of the Star Trek reboot, both Spock and Kirk fear the wrath of Uhura. Really? Because compared to almost any woman in the Babylon 5 universe - Ivonova, Delenn, Lyta Alexander, Number 1, Dodger - Uhura seems ineffectual. The original Star Trek broke boundaries. Much as I enjoy the reboot, it portrays and supports some damned outdated stereotypes.

Yay! It's Fandom Snowflake Challenge time.

Day 1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. Share what you've created. Be proud of your creativity.

I'll recommend different categories I've stories that I've created. Most are set in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom.

Sentimental: In Babylon 5, Dr. Franklin speaks of his travels to other worlds, when he was basically backpacking through the universe. Sailing Towards the Dawn looks at his time with the Markab people.

Funny: Please Come Again: Sexual humor based on Anya's misunderstanding of language.

Rewrite: On This Side of Goodbye rewrites a situation from the comics: bringing Giles back from the dead. It's got a kicker of a last line.

Remix: The Morning After remixes the start of the Responsible Adults (Joyce/Giles/Ethan) verse. It was written for a Giles hangover prompt.

Meta: The Man, which takes a meta look at movies, fandom, and Hollywood, is a remix of Critical Review, a story where Xander's great-grandaughter "wasted four years, considerable talent, and an inestimable amount of her current and future credibility, in a futile and meaningless effort to spotlight the achievements of a man who, much as his great-granddaughter might wish otherwise, had none."
