“Actually he’s about to go on holiday. Kill him when he gets back. Let’s not be unreasonable.” - quote from Dr. Who, Series 7, episode where people’s minds are being drawn into the Internet
Avtec (company’s out of business so I don’t mind mentioning it by name) started out as a great job. There were always different things to do, challenging but not out of my reach. Toward the end, after the company had started failing financially, it became went seriously dysfunctional.
So, my manager, Dan, was due do go on vacation with his wife and kids. The owner had planned to lay off Dan the day before Dan left for vacation but Chris, who worked offsite and didn’t come into the main office that day, was schedule to be laid off with Dan. So, instead of laying them off separately, they waited until Dan got back from vacation and then laid the both of them off.
I could never decide which was worse, to lay him off before and mess up his vacation or to lay him off after, once he’d spent all that money on vacation. Sucks either way.
