Let's get the hell out of here ...
Apr. 23rd, 2018 07:54 pmMy roommate, Kat, has asthma. I don’t cook with hot peppers when she’s home because that can set her off. I’ve cooked plenty of times with onions. The only time she’s had trouble with that was the smell setting her off when she had food poisoning from that bad lettuce that’s been around lately.
She’s been sick lately, coughing heavily mostly in the morning. Over the weekend she said she thought she had strepp throat but that she wasn’t going to the doctor because she has no insurance. She gargled with garlic instead. I’m not sure how but she claims it healed her throat although she’s still coughing heavily. So it can’t have been strepp ‘cause that pain is not lessened so easily.
She makes $30 / hour at one of her jobs, up to 25 hours a week. I think it’d cost her more to have to take off work because she’s sick than it would to pay a doctor visit. She gets her prescriptions for free.
Anyway, I cooked onions with my dinner tonight. She, politely and nicely, asked me to turn on the fan and retreated to her room so I guess it was an issue. The fan is still on BTW. Later, after I’d finished my dinner and gone into my room, she called the dog to her and said “Let’s get the hell out of here.” The door to her room slammed but that may not have been her. The wind slams doors in this apartment.
So I guess she’s mad at me for cooking with onions even though I had no reason to realize it’d be an issue. I feel upset even though I don’t believe I did anything wrong. I try to be a considerate roommate, but I had no idea the onions would be an issue. ;-(4/24: So we discussed it this evening. She doesn't blame the cooking onions although she said that might have been a factor. She said her lungs have been impaired because she's been ill and that if she can't clear it up in a few days she might go to see a doctor. So I just jumped to conclusions.
