Listening to how Em and Sarah hid their relationship until Diana leaves for college reminds me of how the whole Creature world hides their existence from humans. And that parallel continues on the revelation. Everyone already knew Em and Sarah were together. I'm at the start of my second read-through but what I remember is when Diana and Matthew reveal they are Creatures to humans the reactions they get are pretty much, "Oh. Okay. I always knew there was something odd (or maybe different) about you." Just Sarah and Ema apparently anticipate more of a negative reaction, Creatures also anticipate a negative reaction which never happens.
