I know what you mean about translations. My local library carries a book of poetry by Nelly Sachs, translated from the German, and I'm sure it's significantly better in the original!
I get poems e-mailed to me from Poetry Chaikhana (http://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/) which is where this one came from. I couldn't resist posting it, as much for the beautiful poem as for it's being written by a woman, especially one who had such an interesting life.
