I'm not sure I've read fics about Buffy bonding with other Slayers either, but there aren't as many comic-inspired fics, at least that I've seen.
I never gave the decoy-thing much thought, but, yeah, it does seem odd now that you mention it. In the comics there is an issue that suggests demons consider Buffy to the "the Slayer", special, and have a special interest in killing her but even there it was only because they thought she was nearby. The backing down from ho-bag makes as much sense as anything.
I never liked that whole Buffy dating the Immortal thing although a lot of that might be that I had the Immortal mixed up with the Master for quite a while. I thought they were one and the same until a friend lent me S5 of Angel and I saw the episode again.
