Since our assignments came out the on the 9th, I decided that my act of kindness would be that I'm a judge for the Headline Awards. However, while driving home this evening I was really excited to start reading in the categories I'll be judging and so now I'm thinking that GilesCandy is being truly kind by giving me something to look forward to in January and February (the coldest and most blah months of the year ... unless there's snow. I totally adore snow. So long as I don't have to drive in it.)

Apparently rec lists count and as I'm too tired to bang out a fic, rec list it is. I'm going with vids because it's been a while since I've rec'd videos.

First up, Laura Shapiro's
Transparent, an excellent Willow character study showing what excesses Willow, being the ignored little geeky girl, was driven to.

Kaydeefalls'
Brave New World. This summary is from Kaydeefalls' description: the Wishverse is pretty horrifying to begin with, but the really scary part to me is that question asked: "How do you know the other world is any better than this?" And is it really? Is Giles's leap of faith justified?

Polyesther's The Odd Couple takes the opening for old sitcom and made it about Giles and Spike. Delightful.

Only Restfield would come up with a love triangle between Angel, Buffy, and Mr. Gordo. I give you I Belong To You. ;-)

A Slayer in the TARDIS' Junkie: A Willow Rosenberg Character Study 'cause it's awesome.

Deird1's Robot Girlfriends looks at the BuffyBot and April. It's sort of funny but sad at the end. And I can't believe I'd never heard of the song "Barbie Girl' before this vid!

Opening titles to a Ripper spin-off. I'd have watched the hell out of that show.

Another fantastic Restfield vid, Saturday Night explores the events and regrets of Band Candy.

And something that's not Buffy, Thousand Eyes, a Nirvana in Fire fanvid.

Deck Us All With Boston Charlie, a fanvid of my Dad's favorite comic strip, Pogo!

And now we're in the Christmas zone! Dr. Who I Want an Alien for Christmas.

The song that sent me looking through my Christmas vids, a Parker / Hardison Leverage fanfic, The Only Thing I Get For Christmas.

Fringe Running Back to You.

Leaving the Christmas zone, last but most certainly not least is a Harry Potter parody of "Uptown Funk", Dark Lord Funk.

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

It's taken me a while to decide what I'd want. I'm not used to asking for things.
  1. I'm totally cool with anyone creating off of my fanfic. In fact, I'm pretty sure my Transformative Works Policy says something like "You want to play with my story? Do you need me to encourage you? I can totally encourage you!" It's part of the creative process, being inspired by each other, and I also feel that it's an incredible compliment. I know some people don't want others creating fanworks based on their fanfic, but I don't understand it. I'd like an explanation of the other point of view. Why would someone not want others to play with their stories?
  2. Comments on my fanfic are always appreciated.
  3. I'd love to see a fanfic about Kitty Fantastico. But no killing the cat. I want a happy story. I'm so less than thrilled with the idiot who decided that Dawn had accidentally shot him (her?) with a crossbow. You didn't have to fill that hole. The mystery of what had happened to Kitty Fantastico would have been perfectly OK with me.
