Balanced on the seesaw with neither end touching the ground, Drusilla stared upwards, shifting from her vamp face, watching isolated atoms whirling in a cold, stark universe, to her human face, seeing a drama full of vengeance, love, death, and torment. She was amazed each and every time by how her true face stripped the world of passion. Musing on how Spike could still love her, even while showing his true face, the face that tore illusions away, Drusilla decided that he must wear his human face too often, but she’d never tell him that. His fantasies suited her needs.
