Ouch!

It was nice and warm here on Tuesday so I went to the park. There's this creek I like to cross by stepping across the stones, but the water was high and some of them were underwater. I thought, "I can leap that."

Happily the X-ray shows that my foot isn't broken. Unhappily I'm limping along because my foot hurts like all get out, I've wrenched my shoulder, the lump on my forehead somehow is giving me a black eye, and my new eyeglasses are scratched up. That last bit is actually pretty good since it likely means my glasses saved my eye. Oh, and according to my doctor the lump on my forehead means my brain smashed into the front of my skull, bounced off and smashed into the back of my skull, breaking blood vessels. Ick, although since I haven't had a headache apparently it didn't do too much damage.

I'm starting to think I need to learn to act my age...

I keep thinking of an image from a comic I used to read. This guy is falling and thinking "I have two-and-a-half seconds to think about what a stupid move I made on the way down. One stupid move. Two stupid move. Three stup..." SPLAT!

Yeah, my doctor sort of grossed me out by explaining THAT in detail, but she wanted to make sure I knew it could be an issue. She kept telling me I can't bend down (to like clean) because it'd put too much pressure on my brain. Since I almost never clean, I really don't think it'll be an issue but it's good to know... Now I know to skip yoga for a few weeks.

Thanks. I feel like I could use about a half-dozen icepacks: one for my neck, one four my shoulder, maybe one on a knee, another for my foot.

The pain seems to be taking a couple of days to maximize the ouchiness level. I'm hoping it'll start feeling better soon. On the plus side, the cat loves how much time I've been spending on the couch lately. ;-)

I'm sorry that I smiled a bit as I read this ... it's just that it reminds me so much of something that would happen to me. And probably will -- the year is young.

Happily I haven't done something like this (or at least haven't had this bad a tumble) for a couple of decades. Hopefully it'll be at least that long before I do it again!

Cute icon. I just heard "My Funny Valentine" on the radio. The DJ played three version. I heard Sarah Vaughan, but he also played Frank Sinatra and someone else doing it before that.

The icon's from the cover of the book my Valentine's column appears in -- it got up to #15 in print books and #16 in e-books on the Amazon.com, in the humor category!
