For class I was reading Raymond Carver's A Small, Good Thing, most of which is set in a hospital after a boy is hit by a car. After I finished it, I looked over to the spot where Soul had slept the night before I had her put to sleep, and I burst into tears.

I've gotten used to her not being in the house, and I've gotten used to her not being in the front yard, where we used to sit at night. Last week I was out on the deck, and she wasn't in the backyard chomping down on grass. I'm not used to that yet. Probably because I don't go there as often.
