dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (Still Life Reviving)

For class I was reading Raymond Carver's A Small, Good Thing, most of which is set in a hospital after a boy is hit by a car. After I finished it, I looked over to the spot where Soul had slept the night before I had her put to sleep, and I burst into tears.

I'm so sorry for your loss... I had to have my dog, Tip, put to sleep 3 years ago and I still miss him dearly, I haven't got rid of his collar and lead, his bowls or his bed but I'm not ready for that or for getting another dog, although I'm sometimes tempted to. We can still hear his nails on the flooring and his name tag hitting the water bowl. Pets need to be mourned the same as people do, more so in some cases as they can be your closest friends without judging you. My heart goes out to you and hope your pain starts to ease soon.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I still have her food and water bowls. I've gotten used to her not being in the house, and I've gotten used to her not being in the front yard, where we used to sit at night. Last week I was out on the deck, and she wasn't in the backyard chomping down on grass. I'm not used to that yet. Probably because I don't go there as often.
