I am reminded of Scrooge McDuck and the piles of gold (!) he jumps into, because that doesn't hurt? or he has enough it's immune to physics.
He would not want to jump into sad gold. Then the laws of physics might make his daily gold-wallowing painful (also, the haunted souls of Tiny Tim and the million other waifs who died to bring the gold to his vault might get in. He needs the gold's happiness vibration carefully tuned to block angry spirits.)
ok that metaphor went far but you get the fact that I also enjoy the quote, yes?
Somehow that reminded me of Cordwainer Smith's Nostrillia. It's been ages since I've read it but I do believe there's a discussion of SAD money when they discuss the exchange rates a boy used to buy Earth.
