Thanks for that! I may have read it in the past but it's been a while; this time I left a review (my own trail of breadcrumbs.)
I love fics that incorporate both Buffybot's humor and dark possibilities because she represents so much: a stand-in for the slayer line (girls who have been churned out on a "factory line", destroyed, replaced etc) and therefore an abuse of power, using the girls as tools the way both Spike and the gang do as a replacement for Buffy either for sex or slaying; lack of autonomy; buffy's depression and identity issues; the way the gang (and fandom) say they want Buffy but want her to behave like a bot....etc. Such a rich, rich character and it could have gone so wrong in the series but goes so right.
I'm surprised there are not more Buffybot fics - have you read mabus101's "(metem)psychosis"? I feel like I've mentioned it but can't recall: http://mabus101.livejournal.com/125867.html
Huh, this comment you have here is almost exactly like one I was mentioning to you in another thread! ;-)
I have read that story and recently. If you didn't rec it then it was part of the top 5 recs.
I have a couple of BuffyBot stories: Hardware Failure (http://archiveofourown.org/works/665609): Spike/BuffyBot. Comic. Not Quite Right (http://dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com/119113.html): If Dawn pretends hard enough, she's almost good enough. Not so funny.
Thanks for the recs! I left kudos on the Hardware Failure fic (probably pretty recently) but hadn't read yours (just left a review). A couple of the lines in it remind me of mabus' fic - not in a copycat way but in the sense of the "hopelessness" of the situation: Dawn is traumatized, the Buffybot is doing her best but found wanting (as Buffy will be on the show when she returns) and I just FEEL for them so much. The Buffybot's death is one of the saddest moments in the show for me. I cry for a robot- that, kids, is a great character.
BTW - how do you create hyperlinks within your replies? I assume that's an html thing?
Ok, my turn - and god I've lost so many links *sigh*
"Mine own Executioner" speakr2customrs Buffy, Buffybot AU "bargaining" http://speakr2customrs.livejournal.com/313137.html
ozma914 (Mark Hunter)'s Buffybot's Secret - a "fluffier fic than I usually read, and I never read Christmas-y fics but this one gets me teary-eyed. http://ozma914.livejournal.com/100563.html It's post series part of his four friends series centered around Buffybot, Dana tara (in ghost form) and OC slayer Kara http://ozma914.livejournal.com/tag/four%20friends
And one meta - 's "A Farewell to the Buffybot" http://mcjulie.livejournal.com/74454.html?view=406998
Ha that was me attempting to cover my ass. I wanted to say "hey this reminds me a little of..." as a compliment ("but oh noes! what if she thinks I'm implying she plagarized!")
I worry about shit way too much, have you noticed?
And thank you for the link, it looks like that will come in handy.
*laughs* I didn't read the mabus story until long after I wrote mine and mabus might have read mine but it's not that well knowns so that seems unlikely.
I do find knowing a bit of html to be a handy thing.
I'm fairly good with some things on the computer (i'm the gal who used to explain to everyone else how to print labels off the word docs and so forth) but html was never something I needed to learn until I came here to LJ - or rather I avoided it like the plague if I could help it!
I'm trying to remember why I learned the little bit of html that I did. It seems I was doing something web-pagey at some point. I sort of have this vague recollection of putting personal web-pages (simple ones) together, but I have no idea what the content was anymore. Huh.
It's because of the mustache, right? It's gotta be tickle-ly. (My ex-stepdads both had one. they traded it back and forth on alternate tuesdays.)
Talk about a twist.
Right? that and Mabus' story are pretty horrifying, and the horror is all in our heads, in what's implied, which is how it should be. Gore and guts aren't scary, they're just gross and icky - not the same things, folks.
Well, it doesn't tickle *me* ... but maybe I'm just used to it. But at the moment I'm growing a beard, because the mustache was lonely, and the beard makes me look all fluffy by itself.
A guy I once worked with showed me a picture of himself with one of these mustaches - the pic was from back in the '70's. I told him it made him look like a cop and he got insulted although he wouldn't say why that was a bad thing.
I sure wouldn't think it's a bad thing! Personally, I always wanted to look like a combination of Burt Reynolds and Clark Gable, but it didn't quite work out for me.
"not the same things". Which took me a long while to learn. Run (http://dragonyphoenix.livejournal.com/19371.html), an early story of mine, got quite a few comments about how dark it is. I didn't see it although that was, in part, because I'd worked out a happier ending that I didn't use. But also because it doesn't show anything; it only suggests. I've since learned that's what you really want to do but back then I was scratching my head, wondering why people were so upset over this story.
Mabus' story are pretty horrifying Note to self: make sure I'm friends with Mabus. ;-)
