dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (frida and god)

So the prompt at Taming the Must is diaglyph, which is the same thing as intaglio, a sunken or depressed engraving or carving on a stone or gem. Click here to see some ruby intaglio; they are quite beautiful. I have an AU Rupert and Ethan. Rupert went back to the Council but stayed with Ethan. They never invoked Eyghon in this verse. So, what kind of carving would they have on their ruby wedding rings?

I always found it really weird how rings in fanfics have room for poetry and long inscriptions.

Or they are huge things with all kinds of ornaments on them.

What ever happened to the old fashioned plain rings?

*laughs* Ethan's ring could have half the poem and Rupert's the other half!

I'm actually thinking the sun on one and the moon on the other. There are alchemical associations to the marriage between the sun and the moon that would be meaningful to both men. It doesn't quite feel right though.

I'm thinking Janus, especially if Ethan is picking.

Janus is possible, but he's more of a god of beginnings and change and transition. That's not someone I, at least, would want watching over a long-term relationship.

I realize this is weird, but my first thought was a scarab.

Actually I think scarab will work nicely.

There is an association, in Egyptian symbolism, with resurrection. Ethan is dying so I can have a desperate Rupert become certain that the rings, with the symbol of the scarab, are the key to bringing him back.

Plus I can have Buffy make icked-out comments about them having dung beetle images on their wedding bands.

As the writing on the rings there could be like *Through Chaos (for Ethan) and Peace (for Giles)* or something like that?
As a symbol? mhm, what does the egyptian symbol *Ahng* (or how ever it will be written)mean?

Do you mean Ankh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankh)? It means eternal life according to Wikipedia, although I do believe Heinlein used it as a sexual symbol in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
