dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (frida and god)

After posting the AO3 stats, I wondered what stories of my own that I'd like best. I wasn't about to read everything I've written since 2008 so I limited it to my 5 favorites from last year. These are in chronological order.

I wrote Droopy Dog Will Save You! because we don't see either Xander or Willow mourn Jesse. That bugs me. They were best friends. He's dead. Where's the grief?

The Five Sisters Zoo is part of a series. I rather like the banter between Buffy and Xander, as well as how the banter shows Buffy's insecurities.

Cupcake shows that Dawn feels like she's nothing after she learns she's the Key and how Buffy's focus on Slaying feeds into Dawn's feelings of neglect.

I was playing with language when I wrote The Bones of Winter to describe why Tara had to leave Willow.

Mark it with 'D' has an interesting rhythm due to a nursery rhyme that's running through Drusilla's head.

These are all terrific stories and I agree with your pride in them. (Oh, and I feel exactly the same way about Jesse's death and the complete lack of any mention of it from then on.)

Thank you.

It's a very tv thing, not to show grief, but I always expected more from BtVS.

Me too. It was ridiculous. I deal with grief over Jesse a lot in my stories, because I feel it really needs to be there.

I've definitely read some longer stories, possibly yours but my brain is saying LitGal's, that deal with that grief.

Lit Gal also deals with it, and very eloquently, so hers are likely the stories of which you are thinking.

See? And I hadn't even noticed that about Jesse. Still, he was their friend and he was one of the first deaths, if not the first death, that they were dealing with. There should have been some upsetness.

And thanks. I was afraid The Bones of Winter was too pretentious to be well liked. Nice to hear it's a likeable story. Excellent icon!

Yeah, she should have been that upset when Jesse died.

Oh, yeah, obviously should have been both of them.
