We haven't discussed it yet face-to-face. I would hope so. On her side she might say that she had these clothes hanging at her last apartment and didn't break the closet there.
As I said, we haven't discussed it face-to-face yet so I don't know if she's going to pony up or not.
I did suggest she look into buying an external closet because the weight of her clothes bent the bracket holding the rod up. Her response to that should tell me whether she's accepting responsibility or not.
The only reason I would think she might not is that once when a light-bulb died she interrupted my writing time because she didn't know where I kept them and had to replace it immediately (she's such a Felix Unger) even though there were other lights in the room. Yesterday she didn't interrupt me even though one of the rods broke.
I don't think she was aware the bracket was bending until everything broke.
Thanks, that's rather how I feel. On her side she did pay to have rugs professionally cleaned before moving in, but that's because the dirt bothered her more than it does me. And I recently broke a sort-of lock on this really nice dresser of hers. She said she had another one though and that that wasn't a big deal.
I'm rather pissed but I've got a lot of frustrating things going on now. I'm not sure if I'm mad that she's not offering to even help pay for this or if that's just the scapegoat for all the other stuff that's going on.
Letting her know I need the help and how much I've been spending overall lately is a great idea. I'm surprised she didn't offer because I think I would have. Compared to what she probably makes, the rent isn't that much but she's a ballroom dancer, which is an expensive hobby, and has just paid tuition.
Some people are just so inconsiderate, I mean who needs all those clothes anyway.... But, Ballroom dancing is expensive. I know I used to be a tango dancer. And the costumes alone could pay for a small house. However, I was always taught that if you break it you bought it. Besides as you say she cleaned the carpets on her own because the "dirt" bothered her. as for the lock she didn't ask you to replace it. But the closet does need to be in working order, how else is she expected to hang all those costumes up?
I think some of the clothes are her ballroom outfits, which makes them likely heavier than regular clothes. And yeah, she didn't ask me to replace the lock; in fact she said she thinks she has another one upstairs.
I have someone coming to give me an estimate on fixing the closet on Monday. Once I have an amount, I'll talk to her about paying at least part of it. I'm still surprised she hasn't offered.
