dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (Blackadder)

Okay, let's generalize this up a bit. What might WIllow consider to be, maybe not fully taboo, but outside her box? Oh, season 1 Willow. I want her to be breaking rules to expand her boundaries.

For example, I might have her try smoking. I'm starting with her not studying for a night, which she thinks will be easy because studying or not is her choice. *grin* What else do you think Willow might try? I'd prefer things I could make sort of amusing but any ideas would be wonderful.

Mmm, now you've got me imagining Willow's first joint - and her first time getting truly stoned and the ensuing gigglefest. (Well, that's what I do anyway. *ahem* Maybe she gets really mellow. But I imagine giggles. Although S1 is probably a little early for her to get stoned.)

But think about it: Willow, Oz, Buffy and Angel in the back of Oz's van getting stoned...then Giles catches them and he shows the youngsters how to draw a proper toke. Mayhem ensues. (Which is totally NOT your type of fic, I know.)

Sounds like an excellent fic though.

Actually reminds me of a scene from Ab Fab. The daughter, at the start, was very anti-drugs but later, I think in college, when she's hanging with her friends and none of them can roll a joint, she just grabs the stuff and says "Oh, let me do it." ;-)

We get these little hints about Giles' youth that would have been so much fun to explore a bit more on the show. (the comics chose a weird age to regress him to - 12? He's pretty harmless, just grumpy. Very Harry Potter but not a lot of fun to be had.)

I suppose there may be more fan fiction covering that topic and maybe I'd know if I hung out at Summer of Giles but I don't.

she just grabs the stuff and says "Oh, let me do it." ;-)

I remember that! Loved that series - we got all the DVD's back when that was the only option from Netflix.

I think the fun is supposed to be in "poor Giles, too young to get laid". Don't see it myself but then I don't read the comics.

And, yeah, and older Giles might have been interesting but he's actually still himself (50s? 60s?) just in a younger body so we wouldn't have gotten, say, Ripper or anything.

Getting Ripper would have been REALLY cool, I'm surprised no one thought of that. I'ts not like Spike is really a badass any more, he's kind of a neutered kitten. Starting to remind me of Riley on some levels.

What I don't understand is the SOLE emphasis throughout the season on sex. Giles is such a horn dog and that's his biggest complaint about being a child again - not the loss of rights and privileges like driver's license, voting rights, ability to own property or simply to go anywhere he likes in public without being questioned or chaperoned.

In one issue he propositions Olivia and she is rightly upset and says do you think I'm a pedophile? In this last issue Willow turns him 21 yrs old for a day, he races to her house and they have sex (offscreen). Which does not speak well of her and it's just - I know it's fiction and this is an adult in a child's body anyway so...yeah, you know what? You're MUCH better off not having read them. I oughtn't have gone down that path, but I found a free source.

The revelations of Scott Allie's behavior make the comics really disturbing now anyway, I don't know that I can keep reading S10 with the same enjoyment.

but he's actually still himself (50s? 60s?) just in a younger body so we wouldn't have gotten, say, Ripper or anything.

Yes and no? In episode 19 he becomes 21 for a day and as I mentioned, races over to have sex with Olivia, buys a fancy suit, goes to a car lot to test drive sportscars and basically acts like a teenager for a day. He does show a little Ripper-ish badassery when he grabs a guitar through a shop window to help kill a demon.

As a 12 year old he pines for the sex he can't have (so Spuffy sex sets him off - not because he's against Spike but just people having what he can't); but he also sits on the couch with Xander and plays video games and wears a dinosaur print on his bed robe. (I have 2 brothers btw and I'm pretty sure that dinosaur prints went out the door when they were like, 8 years old.)

Basically, Giles being regressed means whatever Christos Gages wants it to mean at any given moment.

I'd forgotten he does act like a kid with the video games etc. I think I gave up the comics when they brought the Master back. It would have been sooner but they brought Spike on and I decided to keep reading even with him being in that spaceship full of bugs. I mean, really, what the hell was that all about?

Spike is really a badass any more, he's kind of a neutered kitten. Starting to remind me of Riley on some levels. *snicker*

Good points on other things that should be bothering Giles. Someone must be tad obsessed.

I do hear about what's in the comics so I did know about the propositioning and then the 21 for a day sex. You're right. I don't know why Olivia went along with that. Plus, 21 for only a day? Gee, that's awfully convenient for the idiot writer who wants to keep him 12. Bad, bad writing.

So that issue with Allie pretty much hasn't been resolved, right? *sigh*

Giles being regressed means whatever Christos Gages wants it to mean at any given moment. and back to bad writing. Every once at a while I'll see what someone has written about the most recent comic. It always reminds me why I'm not reading them.

You're asking me? Be damned if I know.

Someone must be tad obsessed.

After the spacefrak this should not surprise us should it? Why do I continually hope for the best? Give Pollyanna a run for her money.

Weirdly enough Willow has suddenly gone all chaste and old-fashioned. Aside from Giles she's the only one not getting any. What the hell is THAT about? Based on the way they've given vamps stereotypical gay characteristics this season, I'd say someone still thinks gay people have cooties. (But grabbing your coworker's privates and biting people, or killing Slayers and having sex with their leader because a talking dog said so, or stealing someone's body and stuffing their mind into a robot without their consent is all TOTALLY ok. Yeah. Right.)

Why am I reading these again?

Bad, bad writing.

Keep reminding me of that. PLEASE.

So that issue with Allie pretty much hasn't been resolved, right? *sigh*

People say he "stepped down" - but he didn't get fired; he's now “Executive Senior Editor". I've dealt with a coworker sexually harassing me and other coworkers at a college in the past and the perp got a slap on the wrist. It wasn't until he proved to be wasting the college's time and money and not doing his job, period, that he was fired.

And I've read a lot of "I hope he gets help" statements - I hope that his victims get help and are finally believed. I also hope people start speaking up when this stuff happens but let's face it, everyone is afraid of losing their jobs. We've probably all let stuff slide in order to protect a job at one time or another. Or not even thought anything of it. boys will be boys.

It was more of a rhetorical question. *grin*

Oh, Goddess, yes the spacefrak. I'd forgotten the spacefrak. That was so idiotic. There was so much to hate that "season".

Keep reminding me of that. PLEASE. Bad, bad writing.

Re: boys will be boys. I once read a short story that referred to a universe where a woman had, I believe, shot a man in self-defense. It became famous over there and all the woman in that verse were self-confident and didn't have to put up with this shit. The basic idea of the story was a man, disguised as a woman, was recruiting a woman from our verse because "We don't have women like you." Every once in a while I think of it and really wish I lived in that verse.

And also, remember the Tailhook scandal. It was a huge scandal at the time and I now know people who've never even heard of it. I really wish I knew how to fix society.

I've been thinking about the Tailhook Scandal! Paula Coughlin, one of the whistleblowers and victims, ended up resigning from the Navy because the abuse got so bad. And people wonder why more folks don't speak up? It's not easy because of the culture we've created where abuse is quietly tolerated. The more things change....
