learning to get about

So Leslie, my roommie, and I have been adjusting to her broken foot. I brought in a footstool from outside and put it in the tub and also I put in a showerhead with an extension so she can sit herself in the tub to shower. Last night was her first shower in just under a week. She's super happy! She uses a rolling chair to rest her knee on downstairs which is so much better than getting around on crutches. She's ordered something designed to rest her knee on and get about on. While the chair is better than crutches, it's a bit difficult to roll in a specific direction (having not been desgined for that.) She can cook and do small chores like emptying the dishwasher which she appreciates because she doesn't want to leave everything to me. The people where she works are being very accomodating and are making sure she has plently of telework. She's looking into alternative ways to get around, such as Metro Access and a volunteer group that gets elders to appointments, so she doesn't have to depend on my driving her everywhere. If you've notoced, it's important to Leslie that she be as independent as possible, which I get.

She's also figured out how to chat with friends online and Louise came to visit last weekend. I've been picking up vids from the library so she can hang someplace other than her bedroom for a while. We watched The Age of Adeline, which was lovely, and are now watching season 1 of Leverage.

Things are going as well as can be expected.

Thanks. I have been trying to think of ways to cheer her up / make it easier for her. Right not, with the foot, she's focused on getting the swelling down so she can get the surgery.

She's ordered a scooter that she can rest her knee on which will be easier to get around on than the chair. After that we'll be making a library trip. Since she's not out dancing, she has lots more time to read.
