Even when I do get a job, I won't be able to afford my house so I'm getting ready to sell it. My roommate, Leslie, moved out just about 10 minutes ago. I'm not sure how long house repair will take but in September she'll be working full time and taking graduate classes so this seemed like a better time to move. That didn't quite work for her. Leslie's mother fell and broke her hip in Thursday, the first day of Leslie's move. There's now the issue that her mother said she was at home and fine while talking ot Leslie. That was post-surgery so hopefully it was the meds. Leslie's sister is a schoolteacher and Leslie's company is flexible about allowing her to work remotely when she needs to so Leslie may be spending time in Florida (both sisters live up north) as late as September. In addition to her concern about her mother, Leslie's worried she'll have to drop her class if she has to be out of state. She'd dropped her spring session classes after she'd broken her foot and she's close enough to finishing that she just wants to be done with the degree.

Then there were move issues. The first day, when she and Lou were carting smaller stuff over, the parking lot was being paved making it more difficult to get in and out. The movers were running late because one of their guys was sick but they were super-efficient once they did get going, so much so that she gave them a bonus. The apartment had seemed hotter than it should be on Friday but had cooled off overnight. However, on Saturday, she was taking over the last load before taking the cat, and the apartment was 85. So she came back with bedding and slept here. She and the cat are now gone.

So I'm all alone in the house. No roommate to come back and patter on about her day. No cat to come sit with me. When we were roommies I'd always looked forward to her being out of town so I could have the house to myself. Now it just feels lonely.

And it's not like we won't see each other. She's less than a mile away. We're going to see Star Trek Beyond next Tuesday. I'll be watcing the cat while she's out of town for work at the end of August. Still, sad. ;-(

Yeah, big difference between having the house to yourself for a change, and being on your own without no one else living there... So, no plans for getting another roommate?

So very different! Each time I walk down the stairs I stop and remember the cat won't be down there. ;-(

No, the plans are to fix up, at least partly, and sell the house. I'll likely have roommies after that.

Thanks. It really is! I pretty much spent all day reading Mercedes Lackey because I couldn't find any Vorkosigan saga I hadn't read recently at the library.
