My job requires drug tests. I'm living with my friend Kat who has also taken in a younger couple, Sue and Tim. Sue and two friends one night literally filled the house with pot smoke. From under her bedroom door, it filled the hallway running parallel to Kat's bedroom, filled the living room, filled the kitchen, and was starting to come in under the door of Kat's study where I'd retreated to avoid the smoke.

Last Sunday Sue told Kat that she'd gotten Emma, Kat's dog, stoned. I know Kat reamed her a new one. I wasn't there but Kat arranged for the two of them to be alone. Apparently Sue doesn't give a fuck. In the living room today I once again smelled pot smoke. I'm in the backyard, which happily is close enough for Internet, working on my Summer of Giles story.

Interestingly, last Monday, after the reaming, she hid the smell by spraying something in her room. This weekend she's not trying to hide it.

End of the month and they'll be gone. Goddess am I looking forward to that day!

Kat tends to take in strays. I think she is also ready for them to be on their own but she's also somewhat worried about them. They're in their 20s but haven't figured out how to adult.

Strays need to be potty trained when they are let into a house ;)

I too know adults who cannot adult, in this case people in their early 40s, so I sigh along with you. Some people have no shame and no manners - that's about how they treat you and the home they live in. How they treat the dog, that's another level.

What amazes me - outside of her selfishness and how much pot she can smoke - is that she had no idea getting the dog stone was a bad idea. From what Kat said, Sue was proud that she'd managed to calm Emma.

I can't even ... I don't know how to talk about it. The whole idea that she doesn't recognize how awful that is, it just boggles my mind.

would they react better if you show them an article on how this is poison for dogs? or are they so stoned they can't be reasoned with.

on some extra level this bothers me because pot isn't evil and pot users shouldn't be stigmatized, but then there's these kind of people, living every harmful stereotype, ruining it for the rest of the perfectly adjusted humans who smoke.

The thing is, I think Sue is an addict. She used to use heroine so replacing it with pot is a step in the right direction. However, I'm not sure she can control herself. Up until yesterday, ever since Kat had asked them to not smoke in the house, Sue has been smoking - or I've smelled it - only when Tim wasn't home or, once that I know of, when she was alone in the basement.

I'm pretty sure she won't be getting the dog stoned again. I'm certain Kat discussed it with her, and I don't know what Kat said, but I'm sure it was, uh, let's say intense. I'm actually surprised Sue was smoking in the house after that conversation. That's one of the reasons I think she can't control herself. Given that Sue had gotten her dog stoned, I'm sure Kat was brutal, and yet Sue didn't stop.

And I wouldn't mind them smoking if they were discrete. Between the drug tests at work and them smoking at him, I get frustrated.

You have every right to be frustrated. I'm sorry for her having this problem, but it's her problem to deal with and manage :(

Unfortunately, Sue doesn't realize she has a problem.

You'd think someone who managed to quit one drug would recognise signs of addictive behaviour - might not be able necessarily to conquer it without help, but at least recognise that it's there.
