Sadly, I'm not particularly surprised (though I feel really bad for his ex-wife that my suspicions were confirmed). While there's a lot of admirable stuff in his work, there were also a bunch of things that felt really male-gazey towards the female characters/actresses when I look at it collectively. And the way he talked always reminded me of an ex who talked loudly and at great length about feminist ideals, and surprise, surprise, ended up cheating on me and gaslighting me about it (though thankfully he did not marry me or lead me on for 15 freaking years).

I'm sorry you went through that, but that kind of experience definitely leaves protective insight.

Aw, thanks. It was pretty upsetting at the time, but now I just feel lucky that he didn't drag it on for years. And the anger spurred me into eventually putting myself out there more, dating-wise, and helped me meet my husband. So some good did come out of the whole stupid situation.

I hope Kai Cole reaches some level of peace someday. What she describes sounds awful. :(

I won't let this diminish my enjoyment of BtVS and AtS, but I agree, it is disappointing.
