Cthulhu dreams

dragonyphoenixI dreamt that I was on a ship along with a Cthulhu cult. People were being converted / mind controlled so that they would sacrifice themselves to Cthulhu. I think the sacrifices were to allow Cthulhu to manifest in our world. I'm not sure why they had to be willing sacrifices, why people couldn't just be killed without being converted.
Thinking of the current politically induced violence, such as ignoring Puerto Rico and thereby allowing its citizens to die, I was reminded of ancient civilizations in South America (Mayan? Aztec?) where human sacrifice, in large numbers, was part of the political / religious system. And that led me to Whedon's Cabin in the Woods where sacrifices are used to keep demons asleep.
Aargh! and now I lost where I was going with this! ;-(
