Came back from break to find one of my co-workers complaining about me. Bard and Tina used to get real quite when they saw me as if they'd been gossiping about me. Then they had a falling out when Tina became a permanent employee but Barb didn't. Now they're talking again and, as far as I can tell, bonding by deciding I'm the big evil. I honestly feel like I'm in high-school with they way they behave.

Our work situation is pretty awful and I wonder if they're projecting their anger. Instead of being angry at the situation or the managers, they were angry with each other and are now angry at me. And I'm wondering if that's how one endures a crappy job: put your anger onto someone else to avoid realizing it's the environment. 'Cause I'm finding it hard to endure and am - yay! - planning my escape but I've noticed people either don't seem to realize how bad a job is or they just don't leave and I don't know how they do that.

Sorry you're dealing with such immaturity. One of the joys of working from home is the minimal contact with co-workers. While I do miss the office environment on some levels. It's nice to be able to get in, do my job and leave without having to play nice top people or deal with petty drama.

Bad work environments tend to encourage that kind of behavior as a way of making sure people don't spend their time and every fighting the bosses that are causing the problems.

They also do that kind of thing when the organization wants someone to quit because they don't like being called to account or having their workplace disrupted by someone who requires them to think it act differently than they want to.

So, yeah, it can be petty people, but it can also be a workplace working as intended.

That sounds very much like something working as intended, yes.
